Well well well. The photo of Mikey, or the boy that looks like 'Seth from the OC' as somebody on here pointed out was taken by Mark Moughton at The Junction Gig a little while back. We all celebrated R*E*P*E*A*T Records' 10th Birthday in style (our first ever backstage dressing room with a crate of beer in a fridge!) so thankyou to all of you who attended. My favourite moment was when Mikey introduced one of the new songs; "this song's called Stuck In A Box" to which somebody shouted out "Top Of Tha Pops?" You beauty.

We played The Man On The Moon again a couple of Mondays back to a packed out room of bodies, the sweatiest gig we've done by a long way so cheers to all of you who came to that aswell.

Next gig is Strawberry Fair on Saturday June 3rd on The East Stage at high noon. So get ready for a whole lotta cowboy-gunslinging-action. I'm going to find a way of putting up a zip-file of stuff we've recorded over the last few months (or at least the stuff that gets to see the light of day anyway.) Not forgotten....

Well well well. Various folks have been saying this website has been neglected and forgotten about...but no. This is what has been happening recently and what is to come...

"Arbury Demonstrations", our debut EP was launched on Monday 20th February and to celebrate we played our hearts out at the Man On The Moon. Word on the street is there was an illegal amount of people there, so thankyou to everyone who came down and we hope you had a good time. Also, sorry to Heather for the pint of beer in the face, the people who gained bashed shins, sprained wrists and other mishaps from the very enthusiastic dancing of some people. Secondly, we recorded another 3 tracks at The Hale Home Studios a few weeks back and these shall no doubt surface in the near future. Thankyou to those involved with the recording process, the making of lots of tea and bacon sandwiches and for putting up with all the bad language and rather hung-over boys. We have also had the offer to do some more recording soon from that top fella Mr Skellington Stef.

Finally, gigs in the near future include us opening the 10th Birthday celebrations at the Repeat Records night at the Junction on 25th of April, a good old knees-up at the first "Death On The Stairs" indie night organised by Johnny Boy (check out www.myspace.com/johnnyboydavies ) He wants to get a regular indie night on the go with bands and Djs and lots of Tabitha-esque dancing. On the downlow we are also pencilled in to play the main-stage at Strawberry Fair in June. Details of the last 2 will be posted a.s.a.p.

Well well well. So, I've finally given in to this modern myspace technology hype and set one up for us, check it out at www.myspace.com/pilotsofthesixth I'll be putting songs up and making it look better overall in the near future.
In other news we are playing at that old beauty the Man On The Moon on February 20th. The night will be our first ever CD launch night where we will be selling copies of the demo ("Arbury Demonstrations?"). It includes all your favourites so show us your face and rummage £2 together to get your hands on one. Hope to see you all there, big things can be just spyed faintly on the horizon for your boys.

Hope everybody had good New Years frolics and frivs. I found out early this morning a little scuffle went down in Arbury with two of the Pilots and some "30 year old rudeboys," details are hazy but from what I've heard they're both dandy and maybe/maybe not deserved what they got ( a car boys? what were you thinking?)

So so so, winter seems to be upon us and it has been said that The Pilots will be playing at the Man On The Moon (Norfolk St, off East Road) on December 4th. Hopefully we can get a practice going before a certain member goes of to Naples and Belgium on a beer and baccy run again. The gig has been arranged by various people and we have done nothing but go along with the idea. It should be good as it promises to be a night of similar direction bands such as The Metaphors, Hidden and Asendia, rather than us squeezed between boys with guitars who are angry at everything and make noise, thats noise kids. So yes. Tickets are £3 on the door. Thankyou for your time and we hope to see you there.

Thursday Night

Just a quick little note to say that we are playing an acoustic gig at The County Arms (top of Castle Hill) on Thursday 17th and it'll cost you no pounds at all. Bargain. Due to entertainment licences only two people are aloud on stage at a time so it promises to be like the old days with a couple of guitars and a good pair of lungs. Hope to see you there.
Edit: The gig has been "postponed for a couple of weeks" due to a lack of organisation on a certain person's behalf. Ill post details when I know them.

Back From The Recording Studio

We all just got out of The NQ recording studio in Arbury, Cambridge. During Friday night and Saturday we recorded our first ever, as yet untitled three track demo of which the tracklisting is: 1. No One Cares 2. Piccadilly 3. Keep On Talking. The picture above isn't actually of it, I just liked it. We needed to get the CD copied and pressed and artwork and other stuff done but it will available for sale in the very near future for a small price. Have fun tonight whatever you do and don't do anything stupid with fireworks.

The Portland Arms Gig (24th October)

Thankyou to everybody who came down on Monday. As somebody commented "those who went to the Subways you missed out." Despite that other gig going on across town everyone packed in and made us all very sweaty with your lovely dancing; from those absolutely giving it some (you know who you are) to those cool cats that just gave it the leg tap. For those who would like to know the setlist ran: Chinaman, Picadilly, Train Song, No One Cares, Far Too Much, Hip Bones/Sharp Knives, It's Not Me and Untitled. It felt for us like the best we've done so far and from what I'm hearing people seem to agree. Thankyou to Jonny for the photo. We are recording 3 tracks if everything is sorted out sometime next week which should be hard work but it'll be nice to hand out a little baby with us on it sometime soon. Any suggestions for which tracks we should record? Keep your comments coming because they're lovely to read.

Last Time At The Portland

I just found a set of photos from the last time we played at The Portland Arms; if you click on the photo it will open in a new window. A big thankyou goes to Heather for taking the little black & white beauties. If I can upload more I will do. So, after a little saga I think everything is reasonably back on track and we are getting ready for the next gig (October 24th.) Oh! We got a mention in Explorer magazine this month (edit: and NME this week.) It only says "Pilots Of The Sixth play at The Portland on the 24th" but we were very excited and probably had the same kind of pride if we had a child and he/she had just learnt to ride a bike. Probably.
We'll be seeing you on the 24th or if not have a good night at The Subways, you bastards.

Time for a little update as I haven't done one for a while. Jordan plays this Saturday at The Portland Arms (see post below for details.) Our gig on Monday 24th October seems to coincide/clash (whichever you prefer) with The Subways. For 15 songs about the same girl, pavements, lots of "Yeah!"s and "you are so cool/you are so rock n roll" rhyme schemes for the price of £11 on the door, you know where you can go.

Late Night Tales...Whisky, Tea & Smoke

Back again. Good to a get a bit of time away. The picture is of the table on the balcony of the flat. Lots of smoke, beer, whisky and 5 strong characters in a 4 room flat. Tonight we were supposed to be seeing Mr D in a flat in London but he was nowhere to be found so we didnt get the train down. So I treated myself to the 100 and somethingth watch of The Kills DVD and again realised that I'm in love/addicted to them.Some dates for your diaries over the next couple of months:
September 3rd: Jordan plays a "Tribute To Richey Manic" night with various scenesters, it is in aid of the Missing Person's Helpline and Love Music Hate Racism at the Portland Arms £5.
October 24th: The Pilots play a gig in aid of Unite Against Facism with Darts Club, The Khe Sanh Approach, Polaris and The Barnum Effect. It also is at the Portland Arms but only for £3. Fucking Bargain.
Hopefully we will be playing as a band before October because that is ages away so keep checking back...

Leaving Blighty

By the time anybody has read this we will be away on holiday. I don't know why I'm posting this but... The boys, excluding Mr Billy Bones aka "that one on the drums" are off to Sardinia for a week to sample the sun, sea and more cheap alcohol and ciggarettes than you need/want. The picture above is of the town where we are staying. If all goes well (yes I just filled out a medical form today) we will be back in about a week where Thee Cambridge Folk Festival and talk of lots of house parties and if it can be arranged a secret(ish) house gig await us. Last Night At The 'Arms

Hope everyone had a good time last night at The Portland Arms. From what I'm hearing the sound was better eventhough the vocals were a little quiet. Thankyou to everyone who bought me drinks, danced and the other bands who lent us stuff. For those of you who want to know what we played, here is the setlist: Chinaman, Far Too Much, Picadilly, Roses, The Sticky Situation, Hip Bones/Sharp Knives and It's Not Me.
We are also playing a gig at the Girton Festival on July 10th. It's a bit of a outdoor/marquee affair next to the beer tent. When I have more details I shall post them.

The Last Couple Of Weeks

The last couple of weeks have been rather eventful to say the least. I became the ripe old age of 17 last week, we went out for a band/family meal in which Nana got rather tipsy. Went to see my friend Patience, lead singer of The Grates this weekend for their first dates in London. They played the Camden Barfly on Friday and we then had a little dance to the Queens Of Noize DJ set (Subteranean Homesick Blues, ooo) and then caught two unmarked, unlicsenced cabs (shady as a mofo) to Willesden Green where I managed to get lock in the toilet for 40mins at 4am. This raised questions in my head of: "Is the air supply going to run out?" "What happens if no-one finds me, ever?" Thankyou to the man who had the swiss army card, allowing me to unscrew the lock. The band then played Rota at Notting Hill Arts Club on the Saturday night (see the makeshift banner above.) Thanks to everyone for a great weekend.

As you may well know we are playing The Portland Arms in about a week (see post below for details.) Despite a little recent band fued we are well on the way to putting on a good set. T' would be lovely to see quite a crowd there, if you aren't suffering to badly after Glastonbury.

We are playing with a 3 other bands (Evolution, CITZ and Many Things Untold) who are all rather heavy metal for us rock & roll boys but its all good. So yeah, new material and a chance to see those beautiful faces again...Doors are at about 8pm where you will most probably asked to pay £3. Come and have a little tipple and a dance.

There are lots of new songs being finished at the moment, which will be played at the Portland Arms gig in June, (or hopefully before?) Working titles for these songs include: "A Half-way House As Big As The City/ Hip-bones, Sharp Knives","Answers To The Questions Of Tomorrow" and others. We hope to get some recording done in the near future and to play to you all soon.

Pilots Of The Sixth played their first gig on Monday 21st March at a R.E.P.E.A.T Records night with three other bands. We came on second, after One Last Reason and before 52 Teeth and 9 Fold Punch. The Pilot's played:
Introduction, Far Too Much, Extra Potential, Picadilly, Gained An Enemy (Acoustic), Roses, Farmer John Blues, The Devils Will.
Although our rock & roll didn't really fit in among the emo/hardcore/metal music of the other bands everyone had a little knees-up and a dance. The Pilot's set ended in a stage invasion by more rowdy members of the crowd, forcing the guitarists to play their instruments elsewhere due to lack of space. All in all a very good night.
